Module V - Beginning Together

Module V focuses on caring for infants and toddlers with disabilities in inclusive settings to ensure that children have equal opportunities to share experiences in all childcare and early education programs. Classes include:

Attitudes, Inclusion, Confidentiality and Access through Legislation. Participants in this class will learn the benefits to inclusion; laws that protect children with special needs; and respecting family privacy.

When Concerns Arise - Supporting Children, Families and Caregivers. Learn the emotional effects of developmental concerts and perceptions of disabilities; the for stages of adaptation and the emotional reactions of caregivers.

When Concerns Arise - Responsive Planning. Providers need to know how to prepare for a child with special needs. This includes exploring their own feelings, seeking the parent's point of view, developing an action plan, and know when and how to refer the family to other services.

Building Relationships to Support all Children. Participants will learn the philosophy and challenges to forming successful partnerships between the families, other caregivers, and specialists that may be involved in the care of the child with special needs.

Inclusive Group Care and Individualization. Sensitive care needs to honor diversity and the families culture. This includes knowing how to adapt the environment to include the child with special needs, and individualizing routines for all children.
