Enriching language experiences are
necessary if children are to be successful throughout their life. They need
language to communicate, as well as to learn to read. Child Care Resource and
Referral offers many classes on helping children develop language and reading
skills.
Classes include ways to build skills
by storytelling, finger plays and rhymes, choosing appropriate books, and
helping children learn skills that will help them learn to read when they start
to school.
Every Child Reads - People who attend Every Child Reads learn how to
enhance the reading, writing, and language skills of preschoolers. Iowa
Department of Education began the this initiative to help improve declining test
scores across the state. Since its inception in 1997, schools have seen
dramatic results.
